The Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan has received a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the implementation of the Tashkent Region Sewerage Development Project (hereinafter referred to as the Project). The project will develop an integrated wastewater management system in six cities, one urban center and 70 rural settlements in three districts of the Tashkent region. This will provide comprehensive access to centralized sewerage for more than 800,000 people in urban areas and access to decentralized sewerage systems for 136,000 people in rural areas. The project will also help to implement TST as a utility model for replication in other regions. The cost of the project is estimated at 185.8 million US dollars, including a contribution of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the amount of 24.8 million US dollars to compensate taxes and fees. The project is aimed at improving the state of the environment, health and living conditions in the Tashkent region (defined by the project).

The project will have the following results: reliable, sustainable and affordable wastewater treatment services in six cities and one urban center will be improved and expanded; and affordable decentralized wastewater disposal and services in rural areas of three districts.
